Introduction To Optical Fiber Products
According to the difference of the optical fiber transmission point modulus, the optical fiber is mainly divided into two types, namely Single Mode Fiber (SMF) and Multi Mode Fiber (MMF).
The multi-mode optical fiber uses a light emitting diode LED as the light source and the transmission distance of the 1000Mb/s optical fiber is 220m to 550m. Multimode fiber optic cables and multimode fiber ports are relatively inexpensive, but they are relatively close to each other and therefore more used in vertical trunk subsystems and sometimes in horizontal subsystems or building clusters.
The single-mode optical fiber uses a laser diode LD as the light source and the transmission distance of the 1000Mb/s optical fiber is 550m to 100km. Single-mode cable and single-mode fiber end are usually expensive, but they provide farther transmission distance and higher network bandwidth. They are often used in remote networks or between buildings, called the building group subsystem.
Common single-mode fiber sizes are of 8/125um, 9/125um, and 10/125um. Common multi-mode fiber is 50/125um (European standard) and 62.5/125um (U.S. standard) in size. In comparison, the 62.5/125um optical fiber has been favored by most users and has gained a firm position in the world optical fiber market.
